This year, Breaux Mart in River Ridge was the proud host of Supermarket Sweep.
A beautiful day in River Ridge for Supermarket Sweep.
The goal for each team is to collect as many groceries as possible in 2 minutes. Whichever team had the highest grocery bill when time was up, won the coveted Peoples Health Supermarket sweep title.
Peoples Health paid the bill for all the teams, who managed to snag over $11,000 worth of groceries for Second Harvest Food Bank. All of the donations will end up being used to feed local seniors for the holiday season.
TEAM WDSU WINS BIG
Your Peoples Health Supermarket Sweep 2015 champs, Charles Divins & Randi Rousseau from WDSU News New Orleans!
Watch how Charles Divins & Randi Rousseau from WDSU Newsdominated Supermarket Sweep 2015….
NOLA.com’s Kiri Walton & Chelsea Brasted show off their haul, good for 2nd place!
Major props to both Kiri Walton & Chelsea Brasted from NOLA.com… they came in second place, only a few hundred dollars behind WDSU’s winning team! How did they do it? Well, they skipped out on going for the high end meat products, and stuck to… PEANUT BUTTER!
The Nola.com team went for TONS of peanut butter… and almost won!
The peanut butter strategy not only got them close to winning, they were thinking about the donations too. Peanut butter has a great shelf life, so Kiri & Chelsea figured they’d be great items to donate to Second Harvest.

Sure, Supermarket Sweep was messy, but so worth it!
Olive oil spilled by WGNO’s Kenny Lopez.
Uh-oh… we need a cleanup on EVERY aisle! Thanks to our customers for putting up with a few minutes of charity craziness.
Peanut Oil is great for frying turkeys, but bad for floors.
Mr. Ed poured cat litter all over a peanut oil spill to absorb it. He said peanut oil is the worst grocery oil to spill.
Breaux Mart River Ridge customer Sarah Tassin shops amid the mess.
Missy from the Gambit was the one responsible for this mess! LOL!
Teams checkout, eagerly awaiting their totals.
Gambit’s Missy Wilkinson and Eleonore Fisher said part of their strategy was to make a lap around the store first, then go for the turkey and canned goods.
Greg Ruppert of Peoples Health points out his injuries with a smile.
Peoples Health’s Suzanne Whitaker poses with a basket of ham, a very expensive but useful item.
Chelsea from Nola.com nervously watches their team totals rise.
Breaux Mart Employee Christopher Stout, who was nervous at first about the TV cameras, poses for a picture during a bit of downtime. He was also caught being a great employee, taking change out of his own pocket to help a customer who was short.

WDSU’s Randi Rousseau smiles with the awesome shopping cart trophy.
This year’s winners, WDSU’s Charles Divins and Randi Rousseau, fight off one of last year’s winners, WGNO’s Kenny Lopez. Another WGNO winner from 2014, Anne Cutler, pouts and frowns with arms folded.
WGNO’s Anne Cutler said last year she and Kenny Lopez picked up lots of nuts, which propelled them to first place. This year, she said, they didn’t do that. Still had fun!
Deon “Primetime” Lee quickly plans a method of attacking the basket.
The great thing about rice is that it’s easy to pack in carts. More importantly, it’s great for filling a pantry.
Katie Fauquier of Deveney shares the numbers. A total of $11,810.72 in food is now in the Second Harvest Food Bank.
That’s a lot of Stove Top
