On Tuesday, November 17th, New Orleans’ media celebrities battled each other for the Peoples Health Supermarket Sweep 2015 title. Every year, Peoples Health hosts the event to have some fun, while donating TONS of holiday groceries to Second Harvest Food Bank of Greater New Orleans.

This year, Breaux Mart in River Ridge was the proud host of Supermarket Sweep.

The goal for each team is to collect as many groceries as possible in 2 minutes. Whichever team had the highest grocery bill when time was up, won the coveted Peoples Health Supermarket sweep title.

Peoples Health paid the bill for all the teams, who managed to snag over $11,000 worth of groceries for Second Harvest Food Bank. All of the donations will end up being used to feed local seniors for the holiday season.

Major props to both Kiri Walton & Chelsea Brasted from NOLA.com… they came in second place, only a few hundred dollars behind WDSU’s winning team! How did they do it? Well, they skipped out on going for the high end meat products, and stuck to… PEANUT BUTTER!

The Nola.com team went for TONS of peanut butter... and almost won!

The peanut butter strategy not only got them close to winning, they were thinking about the donations too. Peanut butter has a great shelf life, so Kiri & Chelsea figured they’d be great items to donate to Second Harvest.

Nice work Nola.com!
